Credit recognition

Hongik University operates a system to recognize the credits of students who participated in overseas language training or internship programs at their expenses. For recognition of credits, the students should submit application forms to International Exchange Division before corresponding language training or internship programs are terminated.


Recognition of credits of overseas language training

Credit recognition

If a student completes a language training program to meet below-shown conditions, the overseas language training credits (2 credits) may be recognized. (No limit in country or language)

Training organization
  • Training organization : The language training program of a college (affiliated organization) having a program for undergraduate or higher degrees.
    • The name of the college should be stated in the diploma or scorecard.
  • Period of training : At least 60 hours for four or more weeks (at least 15 hours a week)
Qualification for application
  • Undergraduate students of Hongik University
    • In case of rolling admission students, training before the first semester is not recognized and, in case of the students to obtain credits of the last semester before graduation, if the overseas language training credits are recognized for the last semester, - Excluded
Credit recognition
  • Credits may be recognized only one time while in school.

  • Time for recognition of credits
    • Students in leave : Credits are recognized within the maximum credits a student may request for the first semester of return.
    • Students in school : Up to 6 credits may be recognized for a seasonal semester in winter o summer vacation.

    Documents to be submitted for application

    1. Request for recognition of overseas language training credits*
    2. Photocopy of the admission letter of corresponding school
    3. Data to prove that the training organization is a four-year college (attachment)
      • (In case of the U.S.A., I-20 may be alternatively submitted and it should be stated that corresponding organization is a undergraduate degree granting organization.)
    4. Data to prove that training was received for 15 or more hours a week for 4 or more weeks
      • Ex: Leaflet of the program or internet introduction data of the program
  • Documents to be submitted after training
    1. Diploma or scorecard (original copy)
    2. Photocopy of the passport showing the period from departure to immigration or certificate of departure/immigration
  • Period for application : From time to time in the year. Where, documents from ① through ④ should be submitted before termination of the training program and, after termination, application is impossible.

Recognition of overseas internship credits

Definition

If a Hongik University student intends to participate in an overseas internship program and wants the credites obtained in such program to be recongnized, he/she should make an application to International Exchange Division before such program is terminated and should submit required documents after termination of such program.

  • The organizations accepted by Hongik University
    • The data to introduce the organization should be submitted when making the application and evaluation members should make a decision depending on such data
Period of internship
  • Service for 40 or more hours a week for 8 or more weeks
Qualification for application
  • Undergraduate students of Hongik University
    • The students to obtain credits of the last semester before graduation, if the overseas language training credits are recognized for the last semester, - Excluded

  • Credits may be recognized only one time while in school.

  • How to recognize credits
    • Credits are recognized based on the evaluation letter of the service organization and report of corresponding student after termination of internship. Such letter and report should include period, department, and hours of service and content of service, etc.
    • Credits are recognized within applicable maximum credits as seasonal semester credits in case of a student in school or as the credit for the first semester of return in case of a student in leave.

    1. Data introducing the internship organization (Name, character, address, history, and number of employees of the organization, data showing the situation of the organization, and data showing financial status such as financial statement)
    2. internship service agreement, and content of main services
  • Documents to be submitted after completion
    1. Report (free form including photos)
    2. evaluation letter of service organization
      • including period, department, content, and time of service and content of evaluation
    3. certificate of departure/immigration
  • Period for application : From time to time in the year. Where, the application documents should be submitted not later than one week before termination of the internship program and, after termination, application is impossible.
