Foreign student supporters

Int’l Students Mentor

Is a 1:1 support program to overall help foreign students with study and everyday life. The student will form a team with a Korean or foreign enrolled student (freshmen excluded) and do activities together for 15 or more hours during the semester.As well as Korean students, int’l students can also give supports as a mentor. Also, a mentor-mentee team may continue their activities next semester too. Mentor students receive volunteer hours and scholarship.The application period is the beginning of every semester and is done through one’s corresponding department office.

Study Tutoring

Study Tutoring

Is a 1:1 tutoring program for students who received academic probation or who have difficulty with their studies. The application method and details of the process are posted to the student notice board or at the Center for Teaching & Learning homepage around the beginning of every semester.

Writing Clinic

Writing Clinic

Writing Clinic is a program for students who have difficulty in writing in Korean. With 1:1 help from a professor, int’l students may learn how to properly write sentences and paragraphs in Korean. Short-term or long-term clinic can be chosen based on the individual need of the student.

Psychological counseling for foreign students

Counseling for Int’l Students

The Student Counseling Center operates a counseling program for int’l students who may go through psychological difficulty during their experience studying abroad. Individual counseling and psychological examinations are regularly available, while other activities like group counseling and workshops announce their schedule through notices every semester.Any enrolled students can participate, and in case visiting in person is difficult, e-mail counseling is also available. All the contents of the counseling are kept strictly confidential.

Cultural experience

Cultural experience

A program is provided for foreign students to experience and understand culture during their studying abroad. This program is provided about two times in a semester and the students may have pleasant experience in various places such as Korean agricultural culture experience and temporary culture experience. The schedule and participation method are notified in website of International Cooperation Division and by e-mail.


Employee mentoring

Staff Mentoring

Is a program in which staff member of Hongik University, who speak foreign languages, become mentors of an int’l student to support them. The mentor-mentee will have one meeting per semester to consult about any difficulties and questions they might have, it is also possible to have regular counseling.The mentors and counseling schedule will be announced through the Center of International Affairs homepage and e-mail.


Counseling with department tutors

Counseling with Academic Advisors

1:1 counseling with academic advisors is a program to support students in academic affairs and school life. Academic advisors are assigned at the beginning of every semester, and the counseling meeting shall be conducted at least once. Through the meetings students can obtain more detailed information regarding classes and the department.
The academic adviser assigned to you can be verified at the department office.


SDP (Self Development Plan) program

SDP (Self Development Plan) program

SDP (Self Development Plan) is a self-directed university life design plan that helps students to find the path most suitable for them, and to help establish and implement their dreams and plans. I.e., if the student fills out the various items (dream career, preparations for major, foreign languages, extra-curricular activities, career psychology tests etc.) related to their career in the SDP tab on Classnet, the academic adviser will guide and give advice on how to implement and prepare for it etc. based on that information.This is guidance counseling program to help students to find their career path and help them accomplish it through an 1:1 custom guidance.
